All Those Explosions Were Someone Else's Fault by James Alan Garnder | Book Review

This book review was from the vault lol I filmed this video in 2017, during my first year of law school and forgot about it until I was clearing space on an SD card. Anyway, here were my thoughts and feelings on All Those Explosions Were Someone Else's Fault by James Alan Gardner, a science fiction super-powered romp. Also, I haven't filmed in front of these shelves in so long. I'm about to mov...

This is perfect! As a mom of three boys 9-13 I need moooooore, please!
Will you review Brothersong? It's lovely.
I need to reread it at this point, but I would like to. I don’t remember much because I read it while I was about start finals for law school a couple years ago.
You do such great reviews with no spoilers but richly detailed. I picked up Green Creek Series and Dark Elf Trilogy because of you. Delighted with them. Wanted you to know. Thank you.
I’m so happy you’ve enjoyed them!! Thank you!!
I'm reading it in Slovak rn. About half way through. I like it and Slovak language can be expressive in unexpected ways and that's fun
I love that the position of the book when you were holding it up gives it those golden wings - fits with the winged lion emblem of Venice! Nice review!
I also thought it was weird that Boyardo was considered the only “true victim” in the story & i wish they wouldve fully discovered who was Angelas lover incase it wasnt Santiago
Good review!👍👍👍📚🤖🚀🐲
Thank you for this! I'm getting ready to start The Winners, but felt like I needed a recap.
You’re welcome!
I love this book🎉😊😂😂😂😂😂😊😊😊😊❤
Your fat
Sorry😢😢😢😢😅
Everybody loves this one 😮 I think the repetion or call-backs felt plastered on almost clumsily. To me that's the primary con, and I didn't continue the trilogy.
I read this book a few times, I loved it! Did you read the Truman Capote book by George Plimpton?
What’s your dogs name 🐶 😊🙂↕️
His name is Nook!
We had to read this book as an assignment for English and I have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed it. The things that stood out to me was the great attention to detail such as in the beginning when Uncle Herb's almond farm was said to have failed, this hinted at the fact that the water crisis was already brewing under the surface, seeing as almond farms tend to require a lot of water
That’s a great catch!
“It just showed that they were flawed humans who made irrational decisions” Actually the way it was painted in the book is along these lines according to Capote after conversations with the killers psychologist: “Perry had one personality, Dick had another but combined the 2 personalities created a 3rd Personality and THAT personality is who was responsible for the brutal execution style killings of the Clutter family. “ -This excuse is an utter abomination and insult to any breathing person. To suggest that a “3rd Personality” brutally murdered the Clutters is *Indefensible* It completely alleviates any culpability in Dick Hickock or Perry Smith. Which is precisely what Capotes book is designed to do. And it excels at doing so. To such a degree that even today people are grovelling about the injustice of the death penalty. Which this book and Capote waste No Time in getting into in every single interview Capote has ever given before or since. Capote also didn’t invent ANYTHING journalistic. Everything he had already been done. It was just another con by one of the best around.
Vidar was my favorite character in there and well...yeah I think you guys know :(
While I appreciate your modern point of view with regard to this novel, I must address that context really is everything. The current view of homosexuality, while still sadly lacking, is worlds better than it was when this book was written. Your generation does not seem to have any idea about the amount of blood, sweat and tears it took to get us to this current level of visibility and acceptance. We still have a long long way to go. I'm not even halfway through this book and yet I feel the tension and I remember in my own story how hard it was to be gay. You have countless people, Truman Capote included, to thank for your ability to talk about this book without having the social repercussions and hatred that would necessarily ensue. You're welcome!
shame on me that i rushed through this books so quickly. definitely epic and awesome. swallowed first 3 in just a week. good story. good characters. Thanks to TJ for this.
Theyre not just thieves theyre outlaws lol
Alexis Hall's best book is Pansies. For Real is great too.
Hestia definitely cared about human life. She cared about human so much that she straight up left Olympia.
Nice. Pls do a quasi-review of ,The secret history’ and WHY Donna Tartt is allowed to remain so hush hush about her next book and Why.
Honestly.. I would take the mister bill doll. LoL my dog would never get it! 😂
4:35 I thought Roku knew he was the avatar at 16 too.
yes, key differences being that the fire sages already knew and that he had already mastered his native element by the time it was revealed.

What happened to the wrap up?? finally found a decent booktuber
Im totally obsessed with this book lol, I picked it up because it looked like something fun and simple like a light read, I didn’t think I’d like THIS so MUCH. It’s literally amazing (on the mind of a teenager), I like very much the action scenes (as a romance reader I don’t read this very much) and the interaction between Owen and Seth are really interesting haha. I immediately ordered the other books “heatwave” and the other one (I don’t remember the name) So yeah, im pretty much obsessed
Great review!👍👍👍📚🤖🚀🐲
I loved the movie and enjoyed the book. Truman has unique pose which makes the book enjoyable.
This is my favorite series of all time(and books 2 and 4 are my favorites within the series) and I literally screamed when I found this video because I've never seen anybody else say anything about this book or series
Randall my favorite character !!! I love him, he's hilarious haha That saga is my entire teeneger era i love it
Good review. I read this book, about, it must be almost 30 years ago and now am listening to the audiobook. ı agree with you that he is a bit heavy on detail but ı found his in-depth description of the perpetrators fascinating. I am not from the US so find the social element of the descriptions like reading about a foreign country but that is not bad just different. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys details and minutae but definitely not for the instant gratification brigade.
Currently in chapter 9, really enjoy the book so far.
i can NOT stop laughing and im only 6 minutes in 😂❤
only 7 seconds in and im in love already!😂 When u said "hi!" Ur pup tilted his head and when you introduced him he went to give u his paw ❤ what an engaged cutie!
Glad to see a Rottweiler I’m trying everything with her 13 weeks old. The Chewing is insane. 🦮🦮💚💚
i got so sad when read the last book casue like everything that happened just dissapears and stops matterung plus with ares's death i was so sad
From what I'm seeing I'd trust this guy alone with my wallet. Not my kids though
Ted calling the tumor an octopus is a subtle cue that he is emotionally insulating himself from the reality of Lily's condition. The book communicates this during one of his therapy sessions. His therapist explains that the grieving process can start before a loved one actually dies. Lily's speech, calling it an 'octopus', the elaborate dream sequence that is the octopus hunt. It was all Ted immersing himself in an elaborate fantasy to avoid acknowledging the truth of Lily's situation, and the pain that would come with that. When Ted is awoken from his dream by Lily being in the throes of a violent seizure, and wetting the bed. He "knows this is Lilly's last day" and the fantasy he's been living in is dispelled. From that point on in the book, he calls it a tumor. Lily doesn't speak any more until the epilogue. He recognizes the pain she's in, and how unfair it is to Lily. To keep her around when her life is bereft of joy and comfort. To make her live in a world where "she can no longer play with that red ball". Ted resolves that it is time to have Lily euthanized. The octopus hunt represents the fantasy anyone who has lost a loved one to a disease can relate to. Watching cancer take someone from you makes you feel horrendously helpless. You want nothing more than for the disease to take some shape or form that you can fight, and vanquish. For Ted, that's the octopus hunt. A dream where the octopus is a living being, that can be killed. Saving Lilly in the process. It's a fantasy born of wishful thinking in the face of helplessness.
Harper Lee researched for Mr. Capote she wrote things down because he did not want to write things down. I have read it many times .the investigators in florida concluded that smith and hickock were not involved in the murder in florida. I haven't read the book but try a follow title and every word is true by a guy named Gary Macavoy
I know the channel behind a website that helps you learn English 🙂
Fantastic book , I'm currently re reading for the 20th time
Omg its “hella gay” hahaha I love this. Also yes yes yes and I love TJ Klune’s books. Please please read the Lightening Struck Heart series…OMG its amazing. It does not drag at much as Wolfdong…oops Song LOL 😂 and is very funny!
i just love the way neal shusterman writes
❤
Glad you are back . Awesome book haul
Spoiler: I like this book but my biggest con with it is the term "water zombie". The idea of it felt stupid to me. I feel like instead of someone sucking spit, the man should have been aggressive at the main character because she spit in her face, they are in a crisis so he's stressed, and she doesn't understand his perspective. I feel like water zombies aren't needed in the story because the crisis would be no need for water zombies, they would be stressed out enough to look for water and lash out at people. I also think the idea of the little brother giving up information about the neighbors stalking our main character to practically Loki was dumb. I feel like it would make more sense if he kept pressuring him until he uncomfortably gave up that information would have been more interesting. I love this book though and I hope they make a movie out of it. And I enjoy the slow pace of it anyway.
I’m definitely picking this book up tonight!! and i must tell you (bc i myself only found out today) this book is now a part of a series!! the cover and title is on goodreads and it comes out sep 2024!! you probs know that but if you didn’t i needed to complete the full circle and help scratch off that con!! 😊😊
so i started to read mine and all of a sudden i realized it was a missprint! there were so many blank pages, at first i thought it was deliberate until i noticed that the other pages with words sometimes were fuzzy like a stamp that slipped... so wild! I thought I was finally going to rate a book 5 stars this month but what stopped me was this lol
So glad your back!! More videos pleaseee ❤❤
I don't know which is worse, my hate for this book or the one for my teacher who forces us to read it. The worldbuilding is horrible, seriously how can such vast amount of lands full of ressources be abandoned like that? How can a society based only on trust not only thrive but also be able to coordinate itself to build a space shuttle? The characters are mostly boring, the worse is Nathalie, with the way she was presented I almost feels like she deserved to be brainwashed by her father. The only thing my copy deserve when I finish my english class is fire.
